What the essay checker looks for
- Grammar: subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, articles and pronouns
- Spelling: typos, commonly misspelled words and confused words like affect and effect
- Punctuation: commas, apostrophes, capitalization and spacing
- Style: wordy phrases, repetition and redundancy that weaken academic writing
Understand your writing score
Your writing score reflects how many issues were found relative to the length of your essay, with grammar errors weighted more heavily than style suggestions. A score above 85 means your essay is in good shape. The readability rating estimates how easy your essay is to read. For most academic writing, “fairly difficult” is normal, but if it says “very difficult”, try splitting long sentences.
Essay proofreading checklist
