British vs American spelling

This checker uses the British English dictionary, so it accepts UK spellings and flags American ones when they appear in British text. The most common differences:

British EnglishAmerican EnglishPattern

organise, realiseorganize, realize-ise vs -ize
centre, metrecenter, meter-re vs -er
travelled, cancelledtraveled, canceleddouble L

Note that -ize spellings like “organize” are also accepted in some British publishing styles, such as Oxford spelling. What matters most is being consistent.
