Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 31, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information SpellMistake (spellmistake.io) collects when you use the website, the grammar and spell checkers and the contact form, how it is used, and the choices you have. In short: SpellMistake does not store the text you check, does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and does not sell personal information.

Text you check

When you check text with a grammar checker on this site, your text is sent from your browser to the LanguageTool service, which analyses it and returns suggestions. LanguageTool is operated by Learneo, and its handling of submitted text is covered by the LanguageTool privacy policy. LanguageTool states that it does not use LanguageTool users’ inputs to train its language models.

If the direct connection to LanguageTool fails, your browser sends the text to our server instead, which forwards it to LanguageTool and returns the result. Our server does not save the text.

For languages marked “spelling” (for example Turkish or Vietnamese), spell checking runs entirely in your browser. Your text is not sent to SpellMistake or to LanguageTool.

SpellMistake does not store, log or read the text you check. Because checks are processed by a third-party service, please do not paste highly sensitive information such as passwords, financial details or health records.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: our hosting provider, Hostinger, and its content delivery network process standard request data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, in order to deliver and secure the site.
  • Rate limiting: when a check goes through our server, we keep a one-way hashed version of your IP address for up to two minutes to prevent abuse. It is then deleted automatically.
  • Fonts and code libraries: the site loads fonts from Google Fonts and, for spelling-only languages, spell-check code and dictionaries from the jsDelivr network. These providers receive your IP address when your browser downloads those files.
  • Analytics: we use Google Analytics, through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to understand how many people visit, which pages and tools they use, and roughly where they come from. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) and receives your IP address, browser and device details, and the pages you view. We use this only in aggregate to improve the site; we do not use it to identify you and we have not turned on advertising features. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. You choose whether to allow these cookies in the banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies stay off unless you accept them. You can also block them with your browser’s cookie settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. The text you check is never sent to Google Analytics.

SpellMistake does not use advertising cookies. Apart from the analytics cookies described above, WordPress sets cookies only for site administrators who log in. If we add advertising in the future, we will update this policy first.

Contact form and email

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject and message by email, and a copy is kept in the private admin area of this website so no message gets lost. We use them only to reply to you and to provide any service you ask about, and we keep them only as long as needed for that purpose. You can ask us to delete your message at any time.

Proofreading and editing services

If you hire us for proofreading or editing, the documents you share are used only to deliver that service and are not shared with anyone else, except where needed to deliver the work you requested.

Payments

Payments for paid services are processed by PayPal. SpellMistake does not see or store your card or bank details. PayPal shares your name, email address and payment details for the order with us, and its handling of your data is covered by the PayPal privacy statement.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share information only with the service providers described above, or when required by law.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or to object to how it is used. To make a request, contact us. Since SpellMistake does not store the text you check, there is no checked text for us to return or delete.

Children

SpellMistake is a general-audience writing tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last changed.
