About Belarusian
Belarusian is an East Slavic language spoken in Belarus. Its spelling is largely phonetic and uses letters such as ў that do not appear in Russian.
Rule coverage for Belarusian is smaller than for widely supported languages like English or German, so the checker focuses on spelling and the most common errors. It is a fast first pass, not a replacement for a fluent proofreader.

About writing in Belarusian
Belarusian spelling writes words as they are pronounced: an unstressed o becomes a (akanne), and д and т soften to дз and ц (dzekanne and tsekanne). The short ў and the apostrophe are also distinctive. Most errors come from Russian spellings slipping in. Grammar support for Belarusian in LanguageTool, which the checker above uses, is basic.
5 common mistakes in Belarusian
1. Russian spelling instead of akanne
Unstressed o is written as a in Belarusian: малако (milk), галава (head).
❌ Я п’ю молоко.
✅ Я п’ю малако.
2. В instead of ў
After a vowel, the sound u is written as ў (short u): быў, праўда.
❌ Я был у школе.
✅ Я быў у школе.
3. Missing apostrophe
Belarusian uses an apostrophe where Russian uses a hard or soft sign: сям’я, аб’ява.
❌ У нас вялікая семья.
✅ У нас вялікая сям’я.
4. Д instead of дз
Before soft vowels, д becomes дз and т becomes ц: дзень, цёмны.
❌ Добры день!
✅ Добры дзень!
5. Missing comma before што
A subordinate clause after што, які or калі is separated with a comma.
❌ Я ведаю што ты маеш рацыю.
✅ Я ведаю, што ты маеш рацыю.
