About Chinese

This checker supports Simplified Chinese as used in mainland China. Input methods based on pinyin often produce characters that sound right but are wrong in context.

Rule coverage for Chinese is smaller than for widely supported languages like English or German, so the checker focuses on spelling and the most common errors. It is a fast first pass, not a replacement for a fluent proofreader.

About writing in Chinese

Written Chinese has no spelling in the European sense, so most mistakes are wrong characters that sound or look like the right one, the three particles 的, 得 and 地, and Western punctuation in Chinese text. Grammar support for Chinese in LanguageTool, which the checker above uses, is basic, so a clean result is worth a second read.

5 common mistakes in Chinese

1. 的, 得 or 地

的 links a description to a noun, 地 links an adverb to a verb, and 得 comes after a verb to describe how it is done.

❌ 他跑的很快。
✅ 他跑得很快。

2. 在 or 再

再 means “again”, while 在 means “at” or “in the middle of doing”.

❌ 我们明天在见。
✅ 我们明天再见。

3. 做 or 作

做 is used for concrete actions such as doing homework (做作业). 作 appears in more formal or abstract words such as 工作.

❌ 我在作作业。
✅ 我在做作业。

4. Wrong character that sounds the same

Input methods choose characters by sound, so a near-homophone such as 心 for 兴 is easy to pick by mistake.

❌ 我今天很高心。
✅ 我今天很高兴。

5. Western punctuation

Chinese uses full-width punctuation: the comma ,, the full stop 。 and the enumeration comma 、.

❌ 你好,我是小明.
✅ 你好,我是小明。

Try it with a sample sentence

This sentence uses 的 where 得 is needed. Paste it into the checker above to see what it flags:

❌ 他跑的很快。
✅ 他跑得很快。

Frequently asked questions

Is the Chinese grammar checker free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no sign-up and no download.

Is my Chinese text stored?

SpellMistake does not save it. To check it, your text is sent to the LanguageTool service, as explained in our Privacy Policy.

Simplified or Traditional Chinese?

This checker is set up for Simplified Chinese (中文, zh-CN).

How good is the Chinese check?

It is basic. LanguageTool has a small set of Chinese rules, so read your text over once more after checking.

How are words counted?

Chinese is written without spaces, so the word counter uses your browser’s built-in word segmentation instead of counting spaces.
